OBJECTIVES OF THE 12TH ZIRS
The main objective of the 12th ZIRS is to provide a platform for nurturing relationships
between industry and academia for national socio-economic growth. Other objectives of the
12th ZIRS are:
1. To facilitate increased transfer of knowledge from knowledge generators to knowledge
users (Industry, entrepreneurs, investors).
2. To popularise commercial outputs that also fund scientific progress

TThe Official Opening Ceremony was on the morning of 17 February 2017. His Excellency, thePresident of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde. R.G. Mugabe was the Guest of Honour. He was accompanied by Vice Presidents, Hon. E.D. Mnangagwa and Hon. Cde. P. Mphoko. The Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet and his Deputies also graced the occasion. T
OVERVIEW OF THE 2015 ZIRS
The Research Council of Zimbabwe (RCZ) is delighted to present the Book of Papers that is the result of two Calls for Abstracts which were advertised in the year 2014 in the print and electronic media. This resulted in the submission of full papers 89 of which were subsequently presented at the 10th Zimbabwe International Research Symposium hosted by the RCZ on 12 and 13 February 2015. Selection of the papers presented at the 10th ZIRS was guided by arigorous peer review process of both the abstracts and full papers.
OVERVIEW OF THE 2013 ZIRS
The proceedings are presented as five distinct sections under the headings Agricultural Sciences; Environment and Natural Resources; National Security; Health Sciences; and Social Sciences.The sections were drawn from the National Research Priority Area, which were the focus of the symposium, which are 1. Social Sciences and Humanities 2. Sustainable Environment and Natural Resources Management 3. Promoting and Maintaining Good Health 4. National Security
